To close the year on a high, Audi sold 10,546 vehicles in December, marking a 16.8 percent increase over the 9,030 vehicles sold in December 2009. The German carmaker's new sales rose nearly 23% versus its prior full-year total of 82,716 vehicles sold in 2009. This is thanks to the extended model lineup that now includes 10 cars and nearly 20 variants in the American market.
The December results were also helped by the impressive sales debut of the redesigned 2011 Audi A8 flagship model, the most technologically advanced vehicle the automaker has ever made. A total of 812 new A8 found owners in the US since the vehicle's release in November 2010.
Another strong performer was the Q5 crossover, with sales in December second only to A4. It’s big brother, the Q7 SUV, sold 50 percent better in the last month of the year than it did a year ago. Strong demand for clean diesels continued to reflect the surging need for fuel-efficient models, as the Audi A3 TDI accounted for nearly 53% of vehicles sold in the Audi A3 line.
