Audi A7 Sportback Declared Winner of Design Summit

The new Audi A7 Sportback has managed to clinch another design win, as it has been selected as the winner of the “Auto Bild” Design Summit. A jury panel of experts in the field had their pick of ten brand new cars, but they ended up voting the 7 Sportback number one by a wide margin for its outstanding design.

Among the distinguished members of the jury, James Kelly, who heads the Transportation Design department at Pforzheim University, held the A7 in high regard. “The design of the Audi A7 Sportback was the best in the group by far,” Kelly said. “The low tail section is especially impressive! I’d buy it immediately.”

Othmar Wickenheiser, professor of Transportation Design at the Munich University of Applied Sciences, also praised the car’s sophisticated styling: “An absolutely harmonious design concept. Unembellished flanks, sinewy shoulders, streamlined sides – perfect.”

The panel also included well-known architect and design critic Hans-Ulrich von Mende and Prof. Paolo Tumminelli of the International School of Design in Cologne. They both considered the A7 to be the clear winner in categories like proportions, styling, innovation, haptics and quality.

“We are extremely pleased with this achievement – to be selected by a jury of such experts in the field of design,” said Stefan Sielaff, Head of Audi Design. “The award confirms the outstanding position of the Audi A7 Sportback within the competitive field, and the excellent response from our customers confirms the appeal of this car.”

The large five-door model is designed to combine three three attributes, the sporty elegance of a coupe, the comfort of a sedan and the practicality of a station wagon, in a package that offers long-distance comfort with a sporty character.
