German manufacturer Audi attended the 2011 Geneva International Auto Show this month to present the new A3 sedan concept, a brand new model that's said to preview the future generation A3. Although in sedan form and possible to arrive on American soil in a few years, the new concept is very likely to come in hatchback variant as well, obviously addressed to European buyers, but also in sportback configuration for those looking for a family hauler.

Well, Audi hasn't confirmed these new versions of the car but here are some renderings that could give you a glimpse into what to expect from the A3 Sportback. Basically, the vehicle retains the front fascia of the sedan concept, while providing a longer profile which often translates into more interior space and enhanced comfort.

The A3 sedan on the other hand is expected to arrive in the United States by 2013 and, although it will receive some modifications to comply with local regulations, it will be essentially the same as the concept.

The A3 concept has a five-cylinder engine, coupled with a 7-speed S tronic transmission, developing 408 hp from a displacement of 2.5 liters. Its peak torque of 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) is available over a broad rev range between 1,600 and 5,300 rpm. This allows the car to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 4.1 seconds, up to an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (155.34 mph).

We're still awaiting an official confirmation on the A3 Sportback, so we'll keep you posted.
