Audi A3 2.0 TDI - The Cleanest in Its Sector

Audi's recently-upgraded common rail diesel A3 featuring start-stop technology is the most efficient model in the United Kingdom when talking about its class. The upgraded 2.0-liter TDI engine was already providing outstanding figures but the addition of the start-stop system reduces CO2 output on the three-door or five-door Sportback and Cabriolet variants by around 20 g/km or approximately 16 percent.

Audi A3 is one of the models that plays a key role in Audi's global strategy, with the German brand planning to launch production in China and sell the cars in several new markets.

Additionally, the company recently announced its plans to set up a new A3 body show, with investments costs totaling 100 million euro.

“The Audi A3 is one of the most coveted models in Audi’s portfolio of products. The new body-manufacturing shop will pave the way for the continued success of this model,"
Board Member for Production Frank Dreves said. “The new body-manufacturing shop constitutes a long-term investment in the Ingolstadt production site and will provide excellent prospects for lasting job security," Peter Mosch, Chairman of the General Works Council at Audi AG, added.

Audi is already developing the next-generation A3 which is going to be released in 2010 and, according to various reports, there will be several more powerful engines available, including a 1.4-liter with 140 hp, a 1.8-liter with 170 hp and a 2.0-liter TFSI delivering 210 hp. Diesels will join the range too in the form of a 1.6-liter TDI with 105 hp featuring an automatic stop-start system to reduce fuel consumption to as low as 3.2 liters per 100 km (US 75 mpg) and less than 100 g/km of CO2.
