Audi A3 Made in China

Audi named China its "second domestic market" and plans to further increase local sales with the launch of new models that have the ability to attract new buyers. One of them is the A3, a model that might be built with the help of a Chinese joint venture as soon as 2010.

China Car Times today informed that First Automobile Works (FAW) has the biggest chances of getting in charge with the A3 production but officials of the company refused to comment on the reports. However, voices close to the matter hinted that a Chinese built A3 is indeed a very likely scenario if BMW decides to launch its 1-Series in China as well.

Audi has quite optimistic plans for China, with initial estimates pointing to 200,000 sold cars by 2015. The company only sold 79,390 cars in China in the first seven months of the year which, at the first glance, makes the aforementioned sales goal sound like mission impossible.

Audi will introduce the next generation of the A3 next year, a model that will boast several upgraded parts at both the interior and exterior. The company hasn't talked about the car but, thanks to a number of spyshots and CGIs, we can still make an opinion on how it is going to look like.

There will be several more powerful engines available, including a 1.4-liter with 140 hp, a 1.8-liter with 170 hp and a 2.0-liter TFSI delivering 210 hp. Diesels will join the range too in the form of a 1.6-liter TDI with 105 hp featuring an automatic stop-start system to reduce fuel consumption to as low as 3.2 liters per 100 km (US 75 mpg) and less than 100 g/km of CO2.
