A car manufacturer the size of Audi wouldn't have had it any other way... The smallest model ever created by the Ingolstadt-based producer, the A1, was just successfully crashed by Europe's safety guru, Euro NCAP and received the top rating for the way it performed.
Euro NCAP awarded all the five stars to the model, adding that in A1's case, safety is more than meets the eye. The results obtained by the model for adult protection in a frontal, rear or side collision, as well as for child safety and pedestrian protection make it one of the safest in its class.
The model comes equipped with two front airbags, side airbags and head airbags, high-performance ESP stabilization system with electronic limited slip differential, belt tensioners and belt force limiters, Audi integral headrest system and Isofix.
“Ensuring protection for pedestrians and cyclists is an important concern for Audi. A vehicle front end specially designed for this requirement helps to mitigate the consequences of a collision, and this is reflected in the good performance of the Audi A1 in the Euro NCAP test,” the German manufacturer said in a statement.
The latest addition to the A1 range, the 1.4 TFSI version, was presented at the 2010 Paris Auto Show this year. The model comes equipped with the 1.4l engine which develops 185 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque.
This version can be equipped with xenon plus headlights with LED daytime running lights, LED tail lights, LED interior lighting package, high-beam assistant, light and rain sensor, panoramic sunroof, two navigation systems and a 465 watt Bose surround sound system with 14 speakers.
