Now don't get mad and turn the page, as we assure you this is no prank. What you see in the adjacent photo is indeed an Aston Martin. No, a Toyota iQ. Well, both of them, actually. Called the Cygnet, the iQ/Aston Martin is, as the British manufacturer calls it, "a commuter car package".
“Now is the right time for Aston Martin to take this first bold step to embark on this special project – made possible with the support of an organisation of Toyota’s stature and capability and the intelligent design and perfect city car package of the iQ,” Ulrich Bez, Aston Martin CEO said.
OK, but why? What's the point? You know how luxury car manufacturers use to give their customers a little something extra when buying one of their cars? A watch, a cell phone, a pendant...? Well, that's what this is. A pendant. Aston Martin will offer one Cygnet to every DBS, DB9 or Vantage buyer.
The project is still in the works, so unfortunately we cannot yet tell you what the performance figures of the iQ are, or whether Aston Martin will only tamper with the exterior of the small car. What is certain is that the vehicle is coming and it will enter production, not limit itself at only one "show-off" vehicle.
''Much work is still required, but I am confident that this project could become reality in the not too distant future. This concept - akin to an exclusive tender to a luxury yacht - will allow us to apply Aston Martin design language, craftsmanship and brand values to a completely new segment of the market.”
Our take? A hell of a pendant...
