Overland travel is by no means a new phenomenon, but its popularity has been booming in recent years, with more and more folks eager to explore the outdoors and experience deeper backcountry adventures. The increasing demand for capable overlanding rigs means that the market is now stronger than ever.
Governed by a sense of adventure and freedom that is associated with venturing into unknown territory, overlanding is also about challenging yourself to handle any kind of situation that might arise while exploring nature. But in order to achieve self-sufficiency while miles away from automotive services and modern residential amenities, you need a sturdy, reliable camper that can truly take you off the beaten path and off the grid.

One of the most reliable overlanding camping trailers we've come across lately comes from Canada and is designed specifically for strenuous duty in remote locations.

The Arkto G12 from Alberta-based Arkto Campers is a multi-functional off-road camper trailer that is able to take you places that are far from resembling civilization. It is built for easy towing, with a light GVWR of 4,600 pounds, and for off-grid adventure, and it comes standard with all the equipment and conveniences outdoorsy people need for backcountry exploration.

Boasting an all-composite body construction with an aluminum exterior trim and front tread plate, the off-road travel trailer is built on a sturdy and durable galvanized steel chassis and comes with 4-inch-lifted Timbren axle-less heavy-duty suspension and a maximum ground clearance of 20 inches. Moreover, thanks to its protective underbelly pan, 33-inch tires, electric brakes, and tri-axis off-road hitch coupler, the Arkto G12 can easily tackle roads less taken.

The wood-free composite body of the Arkto G12 means you don't have to worry about rotting issues. It is topped with a pop-up roof that allows it to keep a low profile when traveling and provides full-standing headroom once you've camped at your destination. The only downside of having a canvas pop top is that it doesn't provide as much insulation as a hard-sided camper.

However, the G12 offers a slew of modern creature comforts, including comfortable bedding, a well-appointed outdoor kitchen, an interior dining space, an outdoor shower and enclosure, and a portable toilet that can be accessed either from the inside or outside of the trailer.

Accommodation inside the trailer is offered for up to four people - two adults and two kids - on a residential-size queen bed, a large bench, and a single seat/bench connection that can serve as extra sleeping space. With the top roof popped up, travelers can enjoy an interior height of 6 feet 8 inches (203 cm).

Apart from the off-road capabilities that allow it to handle rugged terrain like a pro, the other major selling points of this camping trailer are the extremely functional outdoor kitchen and impressive storage capacity, a combination that is not so common in the off-road trailer segment.

Having generous storage throughout makes it easy to pack your stuff and head out on your next adventure. Inside the Arkto G12, there are various powder-coated aluminum cabinets, so those with strong wanderlust can really take everything they need with them on their adventures. With a wardrobe, four cabinets, three drawers, a bedside cubby, plus some under-bench storage, all totaling 25 cubic feet of interior storage space, the G12 offers more storage than some might even need.

Moving on to the large slide-out kitchen, this outdoor cooking space includes more features than many other trailers available on the market. It comes equipped with a 12,400-BTU dual-burner gas stove, a stainless-steel sink, as well as a large foldout countertop and a drying rack. Cooking is made easier by a fold-down table that can be used as a food prep deck, and a slide-out dual-zone fridge/freezer is also part of the Arkto G12 kitchen gear.

There is also a cutlery drawer, a spice drawer, and an under-sink cubby for storing cooking essentials. A surprise feature is the 12-cubic-feet pantry accessible from the outside, something you seldom find in off-road campers.

As for the bathroom facilities, the portable toilet can be used inside for privacy. Outdoor access to the potty is also offered, so you can easily take it outside to the outdoor shower room if you wish, which is attached to the back of the trailer and deploys like an awning.

Spending as much time outside as possible is the whole idea of camping, so a 270-degree awning is also part of Arkto G12's extensive list of standard equipment, providing ample exterior covered space.

Additionally, a furnace, a hot water heater, and a large 39-gallon fresh-water tank add comfort and make this trailer easy to live in. Other noteworthy features include LED lighting, a 10-speed roof fan with rain cover and remote control, and a full-size spare tire and carrier.

A sophisticated electronic system is also part of the package, including dual 100Ah batteries, a battery management system with touchscreen control panel and Bluetooth connectivity, and a 15A shore power plug.

In terms of measurements, the Arkto G12 has a height of 7 feet 9 inches close to the top and a total length of 19 feet 10 inches, which means you can easily park it in your garage.

What's even more impressive is that the Canadian manufacturer managed to pack so many features into a decently-sized camper trailer and still keep the price point low. With a starting price of just CAD $68,000, which translates to US $49,180 at current exchange rates, the Arkto Campers G12 travel trailer offers incredible value.
