Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200 Is a Horse of Another Color

Usually, for providing analogy to a motorcycle, people say it is like a steel horse, an enraged forest lion, or a flying bird. The two-wheeled vehicle in fact houses an entire ‘troop of horses’, which are there to respond altogether to the rider’s command.

The classic analogy between a motorcycle and a horse has also been used by Aprilia when filming the official video for its new Dorsoduro 1200 maxi-motard, which you can watch below this article. The way the horse flexes its muscles, stands on two legs or veers is presented in parallel with the way the bike wheelies, stoppies or swerves among the obstacles.

Powered by an all-new Aprilia V2 1200cc 90° V-twin engine, the maxi motard delivers 130 hp at 8,700 rpm and a maximum torque of 83.0 lbs.-ft. (115 Nm) at 7,200 rpm. The power unit is paired with a new 2-into-1-into-2 exhaust system that has been designed specifically for the bike and which is made entirely from stainless steel.

Technical features include radial Brembo calipers, hydraulic clutch, Ride by Wire with 3 different engine maps (Rain, Touring and Sport) and the Matrix instrument panel with on board computer.

In addition to that, the Dorsoduro is also available with ABS and Aprilia Traction Control (ATC). This offers three different selectable traction control levels which adapt each of the bike's dynamic parameters to suit the personal needs and preferences of the rider.

In the United States, the 2011 Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200 comes with a MSRP price of $11,999, while in the UK it retails for £9,974 (OTR). Also in the UK, the model is available on low rate 1.9% finance with a 20% deposit until March 31, 2011.
