Andy Warhol’s 1974 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow Shows Up on eBay

Renowned and sometimes controversial, Andy Warhol wasn’t really a car lover. But, just like he did with his work, Warhol enjoyed to be driven around in luxury cars. The Rolls-Royce now up for auction on eBay Motors is a perfect example of this.

The famous pop artist was somehow involved with cars but not really as an enthusiast, but rather as a painter. In case you didn’t now, he was part of the few that created one of the BMW Art Cars, the 1979 M1.

According to the owner of the car, the 6.75 liter V8 engine vehicle has never been driven by Warhol himself, as he didn't have a driving license. However, he allegedly enjoyed riding in a luxury car along his very famous friends like Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, amongst others.

After the artist passed away, in 1987, the car was auctioned for $77,000 (EUR 56,000) and since then it had only one additional owner.

With an automatic 3 speed transmission, the ride has leather seats, and amenities such as an 8-track player. The Rolls is dressed in a two-tone paint job, wearing Walnut and Mason's Black - the latter looks more like Brown, but one can never question Rolls-Royce color designations. Although it’s a 40-years old Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow, the millage is, according to the owner, only 56,000 (96,000 km). The seller is including copies of original purchase order from Rolls-Royce and the title to Warhol Enterprises to prove its authenticity.

We don’t know if you are a fan of the pop art Warhol was preaching, but we’ll remind you that the man is the author of numerous very collectible and highly valuable pieces of art. The highest price ever paid for a Warhol painting is $105 million (EUR 77 million) for a 1963 canvas titled “Silver Car Crash (Double Disaster).”

As to the car itself, you might want to hurry, considering there is already one bid on the $89,000 price (EUR 65,000), on eBay.
