The ARTcetera events were started by Boston area artists back in the 1980s as a response to the AIDS epidemic that was happening at the time. Over the years, ARTcetera became New England's top event for art auctions but also an invaluable yearly fundraising event for AIDS Action.
For the event, artists are asked to submit one of their creations to be auctioned for charity. This year, the event will be held on Saturday, October 5 at the Park Plaza Castle in Boston.
For the 2013 event, BMW of North America decided to feature its 1979 M1 Art Car designed and hand painted by Andy Warhol, the 4th car in the BMW Art Car collection. In his own words, Andy described the car as “Portray[ing] speed pictorially. If a car is moving really quickly, all the lines and colors are blurred.”
The BMW involvement with arts has been around for quite a while, the German company collaborating with Art Basel, Art Basel Hong Kong, Art Basel Miami Beach, Frieze London and New York for quite some while. However, this will be the first time the Munich-based manufacturer is collaborating with ARTcetera.
