Whenever Anthony Glasson of design studio M51 Concepts reveals a new project, the yachting world stands to attention. That's because the prolific Hong Kong-based yacht designer always comes up with innovative and daring designs that open up new horizons in terms of shipbuilding by proposing avant-garde technologies and impressive aesthetics.
The latest superyacht concept coming from Glasson's drawing board is no exception. The renderings for the new Amplitude project reveal a sleek 312-foot (95-meter) watercraft featuring an imposing profile with a wave-piercing hull and open decks. The conceptual vessel is envisioned with two inflatable wing sails, a new and still developing technology, and is designed with both comfort and power in mind while also focusing on sustainability.

Talking about the new design, Glasson says that "the philosophy of Amplitude is not run of the mill. She is a futuristic attempt at a large motor yacht style vessel, with as low as possible environmental impact, without going full sailboat."

The inflatable sail wings are meant to offer operational advantages, generating power from the wind and thus reducing fuel consumption. According to the designer, the sail wings would be computer-controlled and would be used in conjunction with a solar-electric propulsion system at first. Nearly 2,900 square feet of solar panels would be installed on Amplitude to generate green energy.

Propulsion is ensured by a hybrid-electric system comprising HVO generators and an electric motor drive with battery banks. However, further developments could make it possible for the new technology to power a watercraft of this size independently one day. Moreover, the use of sail wings would significantly reduce the need for complex deck equipment like winches and halyards.

In terms of range, Glasson says Amplitude would offer more than 5,000 nautical miles (9,260 km).

For the interior spaces, the designer chose to combine a futuristic, sci-fi design with more traditional yacht materials, such as wood and marble. The vessel's bridge deck houses a modern-looking living area designed with both relaxation and entertainment in mind. It boasts vaulted ceilings and skylights that make it feel bright and airy, and besides the usual lounging spaces, it also includes a dining area and a lounge bar that wraps around the aft inflatable mast.

A standout feature on this deck is the forward wall, which is made up of LED screens that create a cinematic experience. A similar LED-display wall can be found in the full-beam owner's suite.

In terms of accommodation, Amplitude can sleep up to twelve guests across the master suite, two VIP staterooms, and four twin staterooms. There are also two cabins for crew members.

The vessel also boasts plenty of inviting exterior spaces that lure you into a genuine yachting atmosphere. The aft deck is dedicated to relaxation and socialization, featuring a large swimming pool, a lounge, and a dining table with seating for twelve. A hot tub and a slew of sunbeds and alfresco seating can be found on the bridge deck.
