Amerigon Seats for the 2011 Kia Optima

The slow unveiling of the 2011 Kia Optima/Magentis continues, with the latest news from the Kia front being the availability of Amerigon heated and ventilated seat system for the model. Available only as an option, the seats are also offered on the Sportage, Mohave and Borrego.

The Amerigon seats use a Climate Control Seat (CCS) system which allows them to provide individual control for the heated or cooled air.

"We are pleased that Kia has included our new heated and ventilated seat system for its newly designed and much anticipated Optima," Amerigon CEO Daniel R. Coker said in a statement.

"We believe that underscores the success our two companies have enjoyed working together and the value our technology provides for the KIA vehicles lines. We look forward to continuing to work closely with Kia."

The Optima, which will be launched in the US later this year, comes wearing a starting price of $17,995 (for the LX 2.4l version with no extra options added).

The model is being offered with a choice of three engines, 2.4l GDI four-cylinder, a 2.0l GDI turbo and a 2.4l hybrid (to be added at a later date). Both existing engines are paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, with only the LX I4 version to receive a single six-speed manual transmission.

The Optima is available in three trim levels, LX, EX and SX. Standard equipment includes six airbags, front active headrests, side-impact door beams, height-adjustable front seatbelts with pre-tensioners and force limiters, three-point seatbelts for all seating positions, ABS, ESC and HAC.
