Ford might have replaced V8 with turbocharged V6s in some of their pickups and recently introduced the Focus Electric, but they still have some way to go before a very serious issue is addressed. According to a recent Automotive News article, most American consumers think Fords are not frugal at all.
"There are 240 million people driving vehicles in America and only 32 percent have a good opinion of Ford on fuel economy," Jim Farley, Ford's global marketing chief, said today at the Barclays Capital 2011 Global Automotive Conference. "That means 68 percent don't."
European sub-compacts and new technologies, including the introduction of further electric vehicles will help in the long run. “But we have a long way to go. Those that own fuel economy in the U.S. own pricing,” Farley said.
Sounds like a job for the marketing teams!
