Alonso Smiles at Hamilton's Prost Comparison

Fernando Alonso smirked at Lewis Hamilton's comments earlier this month, according to which the rivalry between him and the McLaren driver is comparable with the legendary one-on-one between triple world champion Ayrton Senna and quadruple F1 winner Alain Prost.

Asked to evaluate his rivals in the Great Circus a few days ago, Hamilton told the media that he thinks of Alonso as his most fierce competitor, depicting him as Alain Prost.

I see him (Alonso) as my Prost ... if you were to say 'choose a driver' I would clearly choose Ayrton (Senna). And maybe I would put him as Prost,” said the McLaren driver shortly after the Australian Grand Prix, which Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel won in style.

While referring to Vettel as a poor man's Nigel Mansell, Ham showed much more respect for Alonso, whom he battled for the world title from a teammate position in his rookie year in F1. Following one of the most exciting feuds in the recent history of F1, the Spaniard left McLaren at the end of his first year with the team, as he felt the British squad was favoring his much younger teammate.

To this date, many F1 pundits regard the duo as the ultimate rivals in modern F1.

If (like Prost) I win four world championships, I like it,” answered the Spaniard, according to the EFE news agency, smiling in amusement.
