Alonso Hopes to Relive Winning Experience in Hungary

Following his controversial win in Germany, 2-time world champion Fernando Alonso is looking forward to doubling that great result with another win in Hungary, which would provide him with an additional boost for the title fight. Currently in 5th place overall, the Spaniard is confident that a 3rd 2010 win this weekend could really make a difference for the championship.

Not at all troubled by the public criticism after his Hockenheim win – when team orders gave him his 2nd win of the season – Alonso admitted his “great feeling” leaving Germany and “emotional” state heading towards Hungary. At the Hungaroring, 7 years ago, Alonso scored his first ever win in Formula One.

The Hungaroring is a special circuit for me. It was here in 2003 that I scored my first Formula 1 win and I was on pole here last year. Returning to that 24th August seven years ago, I don’t remember much about the events of the day, because it was so emotional I had the impression that everything happened incredibly quickly,” said Alonso in a preview for this weekend's race, for Ferrari's website.

The good thing about this race is that its tracks somehow resembles the one in Germany, on which Ferrari ruled from beginning to end. Well, except for the qualifying, but that was all taken care of at the start. Nevertheless, it's clear enough that technical, twisty circuits are suiting the F10 better than high-speed tracks, so a repeat of what happened last weekend is certainly on everyone's mind at the Scuderia.

The track can almost be described as a go-kart track for Formula 1 cars. The corners follow on, one from the other, so there is nowhere for a driver to pause for breath and it is vital to have a car that deals with the many bumps in the track surface and handles riding the kerbs,” Alonso described the track.

From the physical and mental point of view it is a pretty demanding race, so it is important not to get impetuous and overcook things, because any mistake is heavily penalised, especially in qualifying. It’s best to stay focused and concentrate on your own work, trying to put together the perfect weekend, one step at a time.
