The France-owned (Renault Group) Romanian automaker has finally confirmed that Europe's "most affordable electric car," aka Dacia Spring, will finally cross the English Channel into the UK next year – probably sometime during spring!
Dacia, once a brand that was only about no-frills affordability, has evolved into an intelligent buy that dares to dream of much more than just good sales. Thanks to its highly successful Dacia Sandero hatchback and Duster 4x4 SUV, it now feels ready to hit the motorsport jackpot with nine-time WRC champion Sebastien Loeb prepared to drive for them in the next Dakar Rally. It's also almost ready to bring to life the next Duster with the Renault CMF-B platform under its skin to make it even more popular in the future.

Speaking of Dacia's connections to Renault, just like the French sell various models with different badging, the Romanian company does the same with the electric version of the Renault Kwid – the City K-ZE. Known as the Dacia Spring all-electric city car in Europe, the model has been around for enough time to warrant a minor facelift and other updates when the Romanian company featured an extensive rebranding procedure. Plus, since January this year, the little EV also gained a new 'Extreme' variant with a 65 ps (64 hp) engine combined with the fresh trim.

Now, after much speculation, Dacia has officially confirmed: "that the highly anticipated fully electric Dacia Spring will be launched in the UK in 2024." The company promises to introduce an all-new version of "Europe's most affordable electric car," meaning that we might be looking at different trim options compared to models sold on the continent – "enhanced by several significant improvements in design and equipment" for UK's market.

Since it was introduced in Europe in 2021, Dacia's Spring all-electric model has had more than 120k customer orders, so the company credits the five-door supermini with making "electric mobility widely accessible," especially among households with multiple vehicles where the Spring acts as "the main means of transport during the week for 90% of multiple-vehicle households." They also have the data to back the claims as collecting information from Spring's connected services has revealed most customers travel under 20 miles (32 km) for the daily commute at an average speed of 16 mph/26 kph and with 75% of them charging at home for an average duration of 3.5 hours.

Unfortunately, Dacia has only confirmed the upcoming introduction of the 2024 Spring for the UK without providing too many additional details. Instead, the model's arrival timing, complete pricing details, and technical and equipment specifications will be offered sometime next year. We reckon the best season to launch the all-electric Dacia Spring on the UK market would be next spring, right?
