Only three days have passed since BMW unveiled the 2024 X2, and the model has already entered the Rebelle Rally to run in the X-Cross Class. Specifically modified for the event, the coupe crossover looks ready for Apocalypse and surely is a suitable contender for BMW’s first participation in the competition.
Just a few days after its debut, the BMW X2 is ready for the Rebel Rally. The model underwent several modifications to make sure it can withstand the rough conditions of the competition. The most significant of them involves the Rotiform ZMO-M wheels wrapped in the grippy Fallen Wildpeak All-Terrain tires. A spare tire is in the trunk, since flat tires are not out of the ordinary in the Rebel Rally.

The model also got custom skid plates and underbody protection that will keep rocks away from vital components. There is a Thule Caprice rack up on the roof, set to help with the extra equipment. Additional LED lights by Morimoto also showed up on the roof.

The new X2 got an off-road recovery gear from Smittybilt, plus the external odometer supplied by Terra Grip. The model wears a distinctive livery, which makes it look every inch a rally car and tow straps from BMW M Performance.

The version entering the rally is the range-topping performance-oriented M35i. It is powered by the company’s turbocharged four-cylinder 2.0-liter engine that generates 312 horsepower (316 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque. Those are the figures to deal with for experienced crew comprising driver Rebecca Donaghe and navigator Sedona Blinson.

The 2023 Rebelle Rally marks BMW’s debut in the event. The Germans decided that it was the best time for the new X2 to prove its durability and endurance on rough terrain. Therefore, customers who would buy the car without ever intending to take it off the tarmac will probably learn a thing or two about their future car. The X2 has to make it to the finish line at the Imperial Dunes near the Mexican border on October 21.

The rally is the longest off-road rally competition in the United States. For eight whole days, competitors will drive in six stages, covering more than 1,300 miles through the desert of California and Nevada. It is the right time for the X2 to demonstrate that it can walk in the X4’s shoes, as the new coupe crossover is reportedly seen to replace its bigger brother.

The all-new BMW X2 will arrive in dealerships across the US in the first quarter of 2024. American customers are going to get the crossover as the xDrive 28i for a starting price of $42,000 and M35i, which starts at $51,400. Meanwhile, the Europeans are getting the sDrive20i, the xDrive18d, and the M35i xDrive.
