Alpina is integrated into the core of the BMW brand, making faster and/or more luxurious versions of your favorite sedans. Ever since the new X3 came out, it's shown a lot more interest in SUVs, but that doesn't mean new versions of the B3/D3 aren't coming.
Only a 3 Series? Some of the most iconic Alpina models were of this size or even smaller. So don't think they can't squeeze a lot of luxury into this supposedly compact frame.
Our fresh spyshots show the sportier version of the G20 testing with some kind of wagon. The new body kit is easy to spot, as it features the trademark design of Alpina. The side skirts, front and rear spoilers a ha chunky, retro-style design at the bottom.
In this situation, the prototype is using the grille design from the M Performance model, but we don't think Alpina will want to use anything like that, being far too flashy. Speaking of which, you have to check out the quad exhaust system, which is now integrated into the rear bumper, a bit like some AMG models. Behind all that, we see a single muffler in a shape that suggests this is the B3 gasoline-powered model.
The old model that came out in 2013 worked with a 335i engine game it new bi-turbo setup and 409 HP. In 2017, we got a facelift version with 441 HP, so it's only natural to expect around 450-460 from this latest generation. But unlike before, both the B3 and BMW's own M3 will have AWD, and we wonder how that will impact sales.
Over in Europe, the D3 Bi-Turbo should be a more popular model, especially in touring/wagon form. Again, we'll have a 3-liter and AWD, but it could be a quad-turbo diesel monster with 388 HP and 567lb-ft (770Nm) for a 0 to 100 km/h time of 4 seconds.
