The Swedish automaker reported sales of 141,566 vehicles for its US and Canada activities for the entire 2023, with a rise of 26% overall compared to 2022 and an even stronger performance of its Recharge models.
The latter, with a fully electric or plug-in hybrid powertrain, jumped more than 40% compared to 2022 – and that's without counting on the all-new options like the EX30 or EX90 to boost sales. Instead, Volvo only sold the C40 Recharge and XC40 Recharge as full electrics, plus the S60, V60, S90, XC60, and XC90 Recharge as plug-in hybrid models.

Well, the future is almost here, as the company prepares for the arrival of the affordable EX30 positioned below the C40 and XC40 Recharge models but with plenty of things going for itself like the SEA2 platform, RWD and dual-motor AWD options, two battery options, and a 428-hp Performance option. Additionally, the Swedish carmaker will also unleash the EX90 as the all-electric successor of the XC90 series and its new flagship SUV.

The EX90 comes with SPA2 as a sibling of the Polestar 3, a 111-kWh (gross) battery pack, and up to 510 hp in Performance trim, with all versions sporting a twin-motor setup. The 90-series is increasingly becoming prone to adopting electricity, as the company also launched the first-ever electric minivan, named EM90, based on the Sustainable Experience Architecture 1 (SEA1) and twinned with the Zeekr 009 luxury Chinese MPV.

Of course, don't expect Volvo to start going against the trend and bring the latter EM90 to America alongside the EX90 flagship SUV and the entry-level EX30. However, that doesn't mean there won't be any more 90-series EVs. Instead, the rumor mill fully expects both the S90 sedan and V90 Cross Country crossover station wagon to transition to battery-powered versions for their next-generation showings.

Naturally dubbed ES90 and EV90 Cross Country, at least unofficially, these have been the subject of attention from the imaginative realm of digital car content creators as they seem to love Volvo's commitment to sustainable transportation – especially when it combines with the trademark Scandinavian design both inside and out.

Just recently, the good folks over at the AutoYa info channel on YouTube have imagined the CGI looks of the potential next-generation Volvo V90 Cross Country in all-electric EV90 Cross Country form, and they are even announcing their wishes for the technical goodies – a twin-motor assembly with AWD and up to 500 electric ponies, plus an air suspension to make it more capable both into town and around the trails.

Meanwhile, the resident pixel master is busy with the subtle design changes compared to the outgoing V90 Cross Country and also depicting the hypothetical EV90 Cross Country all-wheel drive crossover station wagon in all the ritzy colors anyone could imagine. So, do you like it or not?
