The all-new Volkswagen Golf, which is just better than the old one, in every single conceivable way, has just received its official pricing information for the UK market, where it will go on sale on October 18th, with the first cars being delivered to customers in January.
Buyers will have to pay £16,330 (€20,300) for a basic S trim car, with the least powerful engine, the 1.2-liter TSI unit, which puts out just 85 hp. This means that the new car is slightly cheaper than the outgoing model, undercutting it by £115.

In base S trim, gets a lot of goodies, though, such as a Composition Media system, with a 5.8-inch touchscreen display, digital radio, CD player with 8 speakers, iPod and Bluetooth connectivity as well as semi-automatic climate control.

Opt for the next model up, and in SE trim, the car gains brushed steel inserts, different upholstery for the seats, leather on the steering wheel, gear knob and handbrake lever, as well as 16-inch alloys. In addition, it also gets ADC Automatic Distance Control with Front Assist and City Emergency Braking, a Driver Alert System and PreCrash Prevention, rain sensing wipers and automatic headlights.

If that extensive list of features still doesn’t satisfy you, then the fully-specced GT may be the model for you. It steps into a different league, with alcantara on the seats, ambient mood lighting, power folding mirrors with puddle illumination, front and rear parking sensors and sat-nav.

However, with VW being VW, they offer a very extensive list of options, which can bump up the price of the car considerably, so tick the boxes with care.
