Audi originally planned to launch the all-new A3 last year, but it had to switch its focus on the A4 facelift and the A6 in order to fight off stiff competition from BMW and Mercedes. But now, it’s free to do as it leases, and the 2012 looks like it will be the year of the compact hatch.
The German manufacture has used the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show to drop its new interior design for the A3, but beside showing us a brand new ergonomic layout, they also revealed a exterior of the car. The actual three-door version of the new A3 is shown on the display mounted on top of the dash. The fact that the front seats of the CES interior have those latches next to the headrests also point to a three door.
The exterior of the all-new A3 is not a radical departure from the current generation. The grille and headlights are the only big changes. From the side, the only differences is that the front wheelarch is more pronounced and there’s an extra crease on the lower door, close to the sill.
