Despite no news on the cars front from Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles, the company listed on the Borsa Italiana and the New York Stock Exchange plans to build two new engines.
Moreover, these two new units are touted as high-performance ones and will lead Alfa Romeo's global renaissance. OK, that sounds good but will it happen?

According to Automotive News Europe, the engines are split like this: one will draw DNA from Ferrari and will use a six-cylinder architecture, but that will sit on top of the Alfa Romeo range.

The other unit will be a four-cylinder banger that will be offered in both diesel and gasoline versions. Coming from a company that's all promises and no actions in recent times, we're finding it hard to believe that FCA really means business.

I mean, Alfa Romeo wants to sell 400,000 units in the next four years, which is kind of unreal if you think that they promised eight new models (two compacts, the mid-size already mentioned, a high-performance variant of that mid-size, one full-size car, two SUVs, and a special car), but none of them surfaced so far. And guess what, the carmaker says none of them are cheap.

Moreover, the company pledges to invest €500 million in its Termoli plant, which should be able to deliver around 200,000 engines per year. The upgrading works are set to last for around six months, so you do the math and see for yourselves whether FCA's plans are achievable.

Not to mention that a return to the US market means Alfa Romeo will have to battle Audi, Mercedes and BMW in an attempt to even secure decent sales figures.
