Whether you're planning to take a road trip, go camping and explore the great outdoors, or simply want to get away from the city and take a break from the daily routine, van conversions might serve as a great home away from home, offering all the space and comfort you need on the road.
Considering the tremendous popularity of the van life movement, there are countless camper conversions out there, boasting different layouts and decorating styles, but the good thing about these vans is that they can be custom-tailored and personalized to reflect your personal lifestyle and preferences.

United Kingdom-based outfitter Reset and Chill Campers is one of the companies you can turn to if you live in Europe and want a van converted into a cozy home on wheels, built with quality materials, off-grid features, and great attention to detail.

One of their most recent creations is the Onyx van conversion. This beautifully crafted motorhome is touted as an alpine-inspired retreat on wheels and boasts a multifunctional layout and plenty of residential-style touches, like a convertible bed, full-size shower, and timber paneling on the walls and ceiling. All these features add practicality and warmth to the interior and show that a small living space doesn't necessarily mean compromising on style or comfort.

Reset and Chill Campers was founded in 2019 by outdoorsman, van life enthusiast, and designer Thomas James. Prior to starting the company, James had been renovating high-end apartments and chalets in the French Alps, and his design and construction experience has served him well in this new endeavor.

The Onyx van conversion is built on a fully-insulated Volkswagen Crafter LWB measuring 14 feet in length (4.3 meters) and features a gorgeous modern interior with a black and gray color palette, harmoniously combined with the outfitter's signature brushed and baked effect for the wall and ceiling finish.

Boasting a quite unassuming exterior, with the only standout feature being the mountain forest decal toward the rear of the van, Onyx impresses through its outstanding interior design and high functionality.

At first glance, the layout seems deceivingly compact, but a closer look will reveal the builder managed to include everything one needs for comfortable living, including a sleeping/lounging area with a pull-out, near king-size bed, a kitchen, a dinette, a child's bunk bed, and even a shower and toilet. To top it off, the designer also included a built-in dog crate and storage garage for outdoor equipment at the rear.

While most van conversions put the kitchen front and center, the first thing you see when you open the side door of Onyx is the shower stall. But don't worry, as it's a nice sight to see, with its curved footprint that allows you to easily move around it and the gloss gray/white marble effect on the shower walls that give it a contemporary look. Privacy when taking showers is ensured by a dark sliding screen door.

Moving past the shower, we discover an inviting living space with the kitchen on the left and the dining area on the right. The cooking space might be small, but it truly has the ability to charm you with its matte black cabinets with tan leather handles, butcher block-styled wooden countertop and black tile backsplash. It's both elegant and functional thanks to a two-burner propane cooktop, a small farmhouse sink, and a small 12-volt refrigerator neatly tucked under the counter.

There are also a series of black overhead cabinets that can be used either for kitchen essentials or for storing clothes and other belongings, as they extend over the sleeping area.

The dinette seats two and features a small adjustable table and two upholstered benches, one on either side. As you can observe in the photo gallery, one of the benches is longer than the other; that's because it was designed with double functionality in mind. It is supposed to also function as an extra bunk bed for a child if needed.

The bedroom is at the rear of the van and includes a raised bed platform with a pull-out section that extends the sleeping area to near king-size dimensions. During the day, you can use it as a day bed, and when the night comes, simply pull out the wooden slats and add the extra cushions, and you have a much larger bed to comfortably accommodate two adults.

Special attention has been paid to the lighting system, and besides recessed lights on the ceiling, we also have two wooden sconce wall lights, both individually switched, that fit brilliantly with the overall design and create a great ambiance. There are also two skylights, one in the kitchen area and the other above the bed, allowing natural light to pour in.

The bed's raised platform creates a generous garage area that can be accessed via the rear double doors. In this particular build, it houses a built-in dog crate, with plenty of space left for storage.

The Onyx van conversion boasts full off-grid capability, thanks to a hot water boiler, a night diesel heating system, solar panels on the roof, a large battery bank, and a portable toilet that can be stowed away inside the shower stall.

Pricing info for this expertly crafted van conversion has not been revealed, but you can get in touch with Reset and Chill Campers for more details. The company does not ship to the United States, but the team's stylish campers can serve as great inspiration for many.
