The newest, most exciting electric SUV to be revealed is the Mercedes-Benz EQC. Shown in a bunch of stills released earlier this week, the model will hit the market in 2020. But the floodgates are open, so expect to hear and see a lot more about the SUV that sends shivers down Tesla’s spine in the coming year.
This make the EQC popular campaign kicked off on September 5, with a 4-minute long video released by the Germans. It is called What do I need to know about charging my EQ? and takes the viewers and potential customers through all the basics of EV charging, from finding a charging point to how conversion of the current from AC to DC affects the time needed to reach full capacity.
For the EQC, power comes from an 80-kWh battery mated to a water-cooled onboard charger rated at 7.4 kW, Depending on what charging output is chosen, 80 percent of the car’s battery can be up and ready in 40 minutes.
When fully charged, the battery in the EQC can provide a range of in excess of 450 kilometers (280 miles), according to measurements taken under to the outgoing New European Driving Cycle, not the World Harmonized Test Procedure that will become standard in the near future.
The power from the battery is used by the two electric motors to spin the wheels with speeds of only 180 km/h (112 mph), because Mercedes electronically capped the top speed to that value for some reason.
The two motors generate a total output of 402 horsepower, a tad more than the 355 hp the soon-to-be rival Audi e-tron is capable of.
The first fully electric Mercedes will go into production next year at factories across the globe. For now, there’s no info on the price to be asked for it.
