After seeing that a Ferrari F40 in LEGO form hit the shelves in the summer of 2015, Ben Smith thought to give it a try too and built a first-generation Phase II Dodge Viper that now awaits for its 10,000 votes before heading to a committee for approval.
Smith created the unusual 3.75-pound model in 13 weeks and used around 2,000 pieces. The car measures 15.75 inches long, 7 inches wide, 4.5 inches tall, and has a scale of approximately 1:11-1:12.

After completing a 50,000+ piece LEGO castle, he bought two F40 sets as part packs and began this project. The high level of detail is the result of numerous searches for pictures, information or specifications and spending countless hours reading the data.

The creator didn’t use the LEGO Digital Designer but built the entire project from the rear forward, while ordering extra pieces needed along the way, according to Auto Guide.

LEGO Ideas is a project where new sets are created by the fans who then have to take pictures of them, write a description, and then convince 10,000 people that their project deserves to be put into mass production. In the end, the creator gets a share of the profits.

The production of the Dodge Viper began in 1991, although the first prototype was tested in 1989, and it lacked windows, exterior door handles, or a roof.

In 1996, Dodge began the production of the second generation of cars, even if among the Viper enthusiasts the model is sometimes referred to as generation 1.5 because it shares a lot of parts with the previous versions.

The engine was the same 8.0-liter V10 from the original Viper, but power would be increased to 415 bhp and 450 bhp for the GTS model, which was a significant step forward for the American company because it was the first model to have airbags, air conditioning, power windows and door locks. The 96 model has been chosen as the pace car for the legendary Indianapolis 500.
