Until now, the only Mercedes-Benz A-Class W176 available with a 4Matic all-wheel drive system in the United Kingdom was the bonkers A 45 AMG, but that situation will be remedied from January 2014 with the addition of the system on other A-Class and B-Class W246 models as well.
Along with the addition of 4Matic, new ECO versions of the two models will also be offered, with ECO being the UK-equivalent of the Blue Efficiency versions in left-hand drive countries.
The A 250 4Matic and the B 220 4Matic will complement the other all-wheel drive MFA platform models in the UK – the A 45 and CLA 45 AMG and the CLA 250 4Matic.
The A 180 CDI ECO SE and the B 180 CDI ECO SE will sport an aerodynamic grille element, underbody paneling, lowered suspension, longer ratios for the manual transmission, an improved energy recuperation system and lightweight fuel tanks.
Despite the power, torque, acceleration and top speed of the two models remaining unchained, both cars offer an unprecedented fuel economy at the pump, with the A 180 CDI ECO SE achieving 78.5 Imperial mpg and the B180 CDI SE 74.3 Imperial mpg.
