Even though the 4Matic all-wheel drive version of the “regular” A-Class is yet to be launched in the UK, the Brits from Auto Express managed to catch some driving miles in an early assessment model.
The only all-wheel drive version of the A-Class apart from the A 45 AMG is the A 250, so, just like everyone else, Auto Express reviewers also see it as simply the more civilized version of the bonkers AMG model.
Sporting a two-liter turbocharged four-banger that also serves as the basis for the M133 AMG mill, the A 250 develops 211 hp and 350 Nm (258 lb ft) of torque.
Helped by the 4Matic all-wheel drive and the super fast seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, the car is not exactly a slouch compared to its AMG bigger brother, with the naught to 100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration taking a scant 6.5 seconds, which is the same as the Volkswagen GTi.
On the whole, the A 250 4Matic is a worthy flagship version of the A-Class range, with enough punch and driving safety to be a stepping model to the A 45 AMG. You can read the Auto Express review here.
