To be more precise, the front-wheel-drive quarter-mile animal in the piece of video below, which packs the amazing specific power ratio mentioned above, recently blew up its engine in search for quicker runs.
On the day the little powerplant (at least by American standards) decided to give up, the Vee-Dub had been delivering 9s runs. And as it often happens during such events, the boost is gradually increased, with the baby psi steps approach being specifically designed to prevent episodes such as the one we have here.

Alas, the four-banger got torn apart in the process. Ironically, the pass that saw the engine disintegrating was not just the Golf's best to date, but also saw the GTI nearly setting a new 1,320 feet front-wheel-drive record.

As the owner of the Volkswagen Golf GTI, who has reportedly been "running this platform and setup for years in search of its limitations," explains in the clip, he plans to return with new hardware next year.

Such episodes are sometimes the what doesn't kill you makes you stronger kind, which might just mean this FWD beast will be able to dive even deeper into this sprinting matter in 2017.

Speaking of which, the end of the current drag racing season doesn't seem to be too kind to extreme turbo-four setups. For instance, another case of a destroyed engine we showed you earlier today involved an EcoBoost Mustang.

The 2.3-liter Blue Oval machine had just managed to beat a Mustang GT that also packed custom godies, delivering an 11s pass, when its powerplant decided to spill oil all over the track.

Then again, when you ask you engine to deliver this kind of specific output values, you must be prepared for such energy-consuming episodes and we hope both owners followed this unspoken rule when engaging in their speed-pursuing activities.
