540 Volkswagen Golf BlueMotion Vehicles Become UK Rental Cars

Avis, one of the major players on the international vehicle rental market, has announced that its UK fleet will include over 540 Golf BlueMotion vehicles. The recently-ordered cars will join Avis’ Eco Collection, a division that offers diesel-powered cars that have CO2 emissions lower than 120 grams per km.

The Volkswagen Golf BlueMotion vehicles are powered by a 1.6 liter TDI diesel engine that offers 105 hp and 185 Nm of torque. The Golf SE BlueMotion Technology emits 107 grams of CO2 per km and returns a combined cycle fuel consumption figure of 68.9 UK mpg (57.4 US mpg), while the Golf BlueMotion emits 99 grams of CO2 per km and has a combined fuel economy figure of 74.3 UK mpg (64.8 US mpg), offering a range of almost 900 miles on one tank of diesel.

Both models feature fuel consumption-reducing technologies such as low rolling resistance tires, enhanced aerodynamics and modified gear ratios that, together with the efficient downsized diesel unit, allow them to return the aforementioned figures.

The model will enter the Avis UK fleet in the following 12 months, helping the company to reduce overall emissions and offering drivers a low fuel consumption advantage.

As a nation we are becoming increasingly conscious of the environment, car emissions and fuel economy, and we are finding that customers are keen to do their bit for the environment wherever possible. The Golf BlueMotion models were chosen as part of an ongoing drive to improve the offering of vehicles with low CO2 emissions and high fuel economy for the Avis Eco Collection,” explained Nick Mountfield, Head of Marketing Avis UK. “Due to the initial demand of Eco Collection and customer demand for the current Golf model, we are building on the success by upgrading to the Golf BlueMotion models.
