VW Golf BlueMotion Pricing for the UK

You probably heard about Volkswagen’s BlueMotion range, the fuel-efficient vehicles that managed to prove that you don’t need hybrid technology to reach impressively low CO2 emissions. The Germans did their job as good as always, and know they introduced a new member: the BlueMotion Golf.

The new BlueMotion Golf is now available in the UK and costs £17,325. For a five-door model you'll have to pay an £585 extra. Using a calculator, you'll find that a Golf BlueMotion is £785 more than the standard S 1.6-litre TDI 105 PS Golf, but Volkswagen is confident a customer will recoup this money due to the BlueMotion Golf being exempt from annual road tax and reduced fuel costs.

A BlueMotion Golf uses your basic 1.6-liter TDI common rail engine that produces 105 hp and 250 Nm of torque. But the BlueMotion has some special features that improve fuel consumption and CO2 emissions: a start/stop system, regenerative braking, hill hold, longer gear ratios, low rolling resistance tyres, a multifunction computer showing recommended gear changes for maximum economy and sports suspension.

In addition the new car is fitted with a sports styling kit to improve aerodynamics and boost efficiency as well as to distinguish this car from others in the range. This kit comprises sports bumpers, side skirts and an enlarged rear roof spoiler as well as 15-inch ‘Wellington’ alloy wheels, cherry red rear lights, chrome grille louvres and BlueMotion badges at the front and rear of the vehicle.

Another important aspect is weight reduction. Not much is done, but keep in mind that the BlueMotion Golf comes with a tyre repair kit rather than a spare wheel.

Fuel consumption, as well as CO2 emissions are absolutely remarkable. The BlueMotion Golf needs only 3.8 liters / 100 km and will only produce 99 g CO2/km.

If your country does not offer special tax discounts for eco-friendly vehicles, take a second to consider before buying. Might not be what you'd expect.
