Ford Motor Co. has issued three recalls for their new 2013 models late last week, one of which affects no less than 465,000 vehicles. According to The Detroit News, the largest of recalls was announced after the company had received 600 complaints over fuel leaks.
"The condition could result in customers detecting a fuel odor, or in some cases, observe evidence of a fuel leak on the ground." Ford said. "While a fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source may result in a fire, there have been no reports of fires. We are not aware of any accidents or injuries attributed to this condition."
The potential fuel leaks is affecting the 2013 Ford Explorer, Taurus, Flex, Fusion, Taurus Police Interceptor, Lincoln MKS, Lincoln MKT and the Lincoln MKZ. 390,000 of the 465,000 vehicles are in the United States.
The second recall was issued for 500 units of the 2013 Lincoln MKZ equipped with engine block heaters after Ford said the engine block heater's electrical cord may crack in cold temperatures. The Blue Oval is also recalling 23 of its new 2013 Fusion sedans over steering gears that may have been built without an internal retaining clip, which could result in impaired steering or loss of steering control.
