The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has opened an investigation concerning 103,374 Chevrolet Corvette sportscars built from 2005 through 2007 over headlight issues.
According to Detroit News report, the probation commenced after NHTSA received 30 complaints from Corvette C6 owners reporting a loss of low-beam headlights while driving at night. "The loss of illumination impairs the driver's ability to see the roadway," the NHTSA said, adding that the malfunction could increase the chances of a crash.
Some complaints also claim the problem is intermittent and that the low-beam headlights started working properly after a period of time. Some of them said the low beams return after the vehicle has been park for a while. However, the high-beam headlights and fog lights aren’t affected by this issue, the NHTSA said.
While the sixth-generation is under investigation, with a possible Chevrolet recall underway, the American company is working on the 2014 Corvette Stingray, which is set to arrive in dealerships in Q3.
