As hard as it might be to believe, 4 million Ford Fiestas have been sold in the UK. The landmark car, a brand new Fiesta Zetec in Candy Blue was delivered to its customer at a dealer in the North East today.
4 million units of the same model is quite a lot for a market the size of Britain, but the Fiesta has been the best-selling car for a while now. Fiesta has led the small car segment in the UK for 27 of its 37 years since it went on sale in Britain.
The customer for the 4 millionth Fiesta in Britain is named Michelle Wardale, who has owned three Fords previously.
“When I was told I’d chosen the four millionth Fiesta I was totally shocked – it’s not the sort of thing that normally happens to me! I just love the style of the Fiesta, it’s very economical to run and does everything I need,” she said.
Her car came with 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine, the same one bought by a third of all UK Fiesta customers.
90% of all buyers of the supermini go for a higher trim level: Zetec, Titanium or Titanium X, with Ford SYNC voice-controlled connectivity system.
Mark Ovenden, Ford Britain chairman and managing director, said: “The success of the Ford Fiesta means a great deal to the whole Ford team. This car combines style, value, driving dynamics and remarkable technologies such as the award-winning EcoBoost engine and Ford MyKey. Today it outsells its nearest retail competitor by more than two to one – and that really tells the story of this extraordinary car.”
