It doesn't take a track maniac to crave for data regarding the ride, and E-Novation knows this only too well. This is why they are back with 3DMS, an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) that can be installed on any motorcycle, offering a set of readings that can help riders improve their style.
Just like the IMUs installed on the MotoGP or other race bikes, the 3DMS records and transmits information related to the way a motorcycle is being ridden. However, unlike the systems that are reserved to the few lucky chaps to become professional riders, the 3DMS is available for anyone.

Even more, it can be successfully used on the road, thus allowing riders to record certain aspects of their performance on their favorite sections of the road. Basically, the 3DMS doesn't exactly "care" where one rides and it can deliver data in any conditions and scenarios.

Magnetic and GPS versions available

The 3DMS will be available in two versions, a magnetic and a GPS-based one. Both are similar and have the same ease of use, but their functionality is slightly different, in that the GPS one can provide more data and in a more accurate way.

The magnetic version is supplied with a special band that must be installed at the start-finish line of a circuit. The 3DMS will sense it and record the lap times, just like a real race bike behaves. The GPS version can also record satellite-based speed and other data.

As an extra cool factor, the 3DMS can also work in conjunction with most action cameras, and it can also convey info in real time on an onboard tablet or smartphone.

Data can be downloaded via a cable or wirelessly on a phone, tablet or PC so that professionals can analyze it and riders track and improve their performance.

The units are easy to install, and all the riders have to do is secure the module inside their bike, connect it to the bike's power lines, and install the external GPS antenna (for the GPS version).

This time, the 3DMS project is much nearer to being fully funded on Kickstarter. You can still get the E-Novation 3DMS for an early-bird price, with €210 ($227) securing your GPS or GPS+magnetic module. The 3DMS is expected to start shipping early next year.
