360-Degree Video from F1 Car Will Blow Your Mind

360 Degree Video 1 photo

The idea behind video has hardly changed since the Lumière brothers first put together the cinema and projected the first moving pictures, way back, in 1895 - you sit and watch the action unfold on some sort of screen, without any or little control over how and what you see on the screen.
However, things are moving along now, and here we have the world’s first fully-panoramic camera fitted to an F1 car, which allows the viewer to change the angle of viewing at any time, in real time - it’s basically like Google Street view, but in motion, and it gives the action much more depth.

The camera itself is the work of a Norwegian company, called Making View, and their ViewCam 360 truly is an awesome piece of kit! It records a fully panoramic image of what’s going on around the car, at a steady frame rate of between 25-50 FPS.

The video footage is of Sebastien Buemi, hooning a Red Bull F1 car around Rudskogen Motorsenter, in Norway - it is well worh a watch, or more, and it can be found here.
