2025 Toyota Camry Welcomes Back the Station Wagon Option, at Least in Fantasy Land

Last year, the Japanese automaker graced the 2023 Los Angeles Auto Show with two major model reveals that will be unleashed on the US market later this year: the 2025 Camry and the first-ever 2025 Crown Signia.
The latter is a real crossover SUV that enters the Crown family, but its arrival might spell impending doom for the popular Venza – and that's a shame because the five-seat hybrid-only CUV is quite affordable indeed, as it has a starting MSRP of just $35k. Anyway, the spotlight on the red carpet was more on the 2025 Camry, as Toyota is bringing to life another iteration of the best-selling mid-size sedan.

There is some bad news here, too – the 2025 Camry is offered exclusively with hybrid power as Toyota decided to kill off all other powertrain options. At least you have the choice of AWD, and with it comes a little more oomph – 225 horsepower for FWD and 232 combined horsepower for all-wheel drive. As per recent tradition, there is also just one body style – a classic four-door sedan format.

However, we might remember that the narrow-body era was a bit more extensive. The V10 series also had a five-door liftback option, the V20 added the five-door station wagon, and the estate variant was also present with the V50 series. After that, during the widebody era, when the Camry nameplate switched from the compact to mid-size class, there was a five-door station wagon also for the initial XV10 and XV20 generations.

As such, it is no wonder that some folks would love to see Toyota bring back the station wagon body style as a slap in the face of crossover SUVs. The company will probably never indulge in such a scenario when estate models are a dying breed in places like the United States, but that doesn't mean the imaginative realm of digital car content creators even cares about the business case. Instead, if we want a 2025 Camry Wagon, they'll gladly give it to us.

For example, this virtual artist, known as Theottle on social media, has (again) resorted to CGI slicing and dicing the 2025 Camry Hybrid into something cooler. The last time he worked the CGI brush, it was a hypothetical 2025 or 2026 Toyota GR Camry, but now the latest behind-the-scenes making-of video feature centers around the unofficial and unannounced 2025 Toyota Camry Hybrid Wagon. Interestingly, the pixel master makes this transformation seem like a walk in the park.

So, this design project begs the question – why is Toyota unwilling to bring a Camry with five doors and the practicality of a station wagon to market? The answer is simple, of course: it would immediately render the more expensive five-seat mid-size 2025 Crown Signia crossover SUV obsolete. Right?
