The paint has barely dried on its body, but the new MINI Cooper S has already fallen into the hands of rendering artists, where it has gone topless to preview the upcoming open-top version of the car that is currently in the making.
Keeping things simple during the pixel manipulating process was Theottle. The rendering artist deleted the fixed roof and gave it a rag top instead, which folds down behind the rear seats. This move has virtually eaten into the cargo area, which is 8.9 cubic feet (252 liters) in the three-door hatch. Folding down the second row will increase it to 34.4 cubic feet (974 liters).

Besides going topless and looking ready to greet summer in the northern hemisphere, the 2025 MINI Cooper S Convertible retains all the features of its fixed-roof sibling. It is presented with the same face, dominated by the circular headlamps and typical grille, has half Union Jack taillights, displays its name on the tailgate, and sports the same alloys and exterior color, as well as the plastic cladding around the wheel around the wheel arches and on the side skirts and lower parts of the bumpers.

Popping the hood open would reveal a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. According to the spec sheet, the unit produces 201 horsepower (204 ps/150 kW) and puts 221 pound-feet (300 Nm) under the driver's right foot, which is enough to allow it to hit 60 mph (97 kph) in 6.3 seconds. The new MINI Cooper S is said to retain the famous go-kart feel, and the same goes for the lesser Cooper, whose specs have yet to be released, with the company only stating that it, too, packs a 2.0L four-pot, albeit with less power.

Inside, both versions have a new infotainment system. The 9.4-inch round OLED screen offers access to various functions and also displays the key vehicle information on the upper part, including fuel consumption and speed. The lower part gives access to climate control, phone, media, and navigation. Future owners will have to get used to looking at this screen for critical information, as there is no instrument cluster behind the redesigned multi-function steering wheel. Augmented view, digital key, and a host of driving aids are also on deck.

MINI will offer the new 2025 Cooper and Cooper S with numerous exterior hues combined with three roof colors. Additional details will be released when the time comes, as production of the supermini hot hatch will kick off in March, followed by the regular Cooper four months later. The 2025 Cooper will start at $28,950 in the United States of America before the $995 destination charge, and the punchier and more equipped Cooper S will kick off from $32,200.
