Volkswagen has opened the order books for the plug-in hybrid versions of the new-gen 2024 Tiguan in Europe, where the mild-hybrid and diesel variants have already been available since last fall.
The offering comprises two versions combining the 1.5L TSI gasoline lump with an electric motor and a battery pack. The entry-level has 204 ps (201 hp/150 kW) on tap, and the more advanced variant enjoys 272 ps (268 hp/200 kW) combined.

Volkswagen says that in its most frugal configuration, the new-gen Tiguan PHEV has an electric driving range of up to 120 kilometers (75 miles) and over 900 km (560 miles) combined. Its battery pack can be recharged at up to 100 kW (up from 3.6 kW in the older iteration) and supports DC fast charging of up to 50 kW.

In total, the electrified crossover comes in four trim levels, with the base getting standard stuff such as the 12.9-inch infotainment system, digital gauge cluster, single-zone automatic air-con, and USB-C ports at no extra cost. It also comes with lane assist, reversing camera, emergency braking, side assist, dynamic road sign display, LED headlights, 17-inch alloys, Car2X, and others.

Pricing for this variant starts at €36,600 ($39,565) in its home market of Germany, and it packs the 204 ps (201 hp/150 kW) powertrain. The superior assembly, with its 272 ps (268 hp/200 kW), can be configured from the Life upwards (the lineup also includes the Elegance and R-Line) and kicks off at €48,655 ($52,595) on the right side of the pond. All models feature an automatic transmission.

Other highlights of the 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan range include the ChatGPT integration, a fresh Park Assist that allows the vehicle to drive into and out of parking spaces over a distance of up to 50 meters (164 feet) using the memory function. Users can also park it remotely by using their smartphones. Advanced headlamps, derived from the larger Touareg, are also on deck, alongside the pneumatic massage function for the front seats.

For now, the 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan is available in Europe, but the German automaker is planning its U.S. launch, too. However, instead of the five-seat configuration, the crossover will launch as a seven-seater with three rows of seats in our market, featuring tweaked front and rear ends, a larger rear overhang, and a few other novelties.

Europe will also get this model, although instead of the Tiguan moniker, it will be known as the Tayron over there. The first prototypes of the car were recently spied during the cold-testing phase and we expect it to make its way to dealers in the United States for the 2025 model year. It is possible that Europe might get it in the coming months, too.
