After the grand unveiling back in September 2023, the new generation Volkswagen Tiguan is now on sale in the United Kingdom. The crossover is offered in several trim levels with numerous powertrain options and comes with competitive pricing.
The lineup kicks off with the base model, which is known as the Tiguan. It has a recommended retail price of £34,060 (equal to $43,427), featuring 17-inch alloys, LED front and rear lights, black roof rails, Quad Paper seat trim covers, a 12.9-inch infotainment, and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster.

Safety gizmos include autonomous emergency braking with cyclist and pedestrian monitoring, side assist, lane assist, front cross traffic assist, parking sensors, and a reversing camera. Powering it is a 1.5-liter mild-hybrid that develops 130 ps (128 hp/96 kW) and works in concert with a DSG seven-speed transmission.

Do you know what other version of the new-gen VW Tiguan comes with the same base lump and gearbox? That would be the Life. Pricing for this one starts at £35,905 ($45,779), and it comes with 18-inch alloys, fabric seat trim covers, 10-color ambient lighting, a wireless charging pad, voice control, electrically foldable side mirrors, three-zone climate control, park assistance, and adaptive cruise control.

Next comes the Elegance, with its 1.5L 150 ps (148 hp/110 kW) base motor paired with the same DSG 'box. Choosing this variant means paying at least £39,275 ($50,076), and it comes with 19-inch wheels, more advanced lighting units at both ends and a light strip up front, keyless entry, electric tailgate, 30-color ambient lighting, heated front seats with massaging function, and area view and rearview camera.

Completing the lineup is the R-Line. The top flavor of the 2024 Tiguan has a recommended retail price of £39,680 ($50,592) and features the same standard engine as the Elegance. This model brings 20-inch wheels, sportier bumpers, silver roof rails, front comfort seats, velour Greyson and ArtVelours upholstery, and dynamic headlight range control with dynamic cornering light, among others.

Besides these base motors, Volkswagen's new crossover is also offered with a 2.0L TDI. The diesel mill develops 150 ps (148 hp/110 kW) and is available on the Life, Elegance, and R-Line trim levels. Joining them later this year will be the two turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline units, making 204 and 265 ps (201-261 hp/150-195 kW), and completing the lineup will be two plug-in hybrids with combined outputs of 204 ps (201 hp/150 kW) and 272 ps (268 hp/200 kW).

The most frugal variant can travel around 62 miles (100 km) on zero emissions, Volkswagen claims, which should be enough to enable it to operate as an EV during most trips. It is also worth noting that all models feature a DSG, and for now, the new Tiguan remains a front-wheel-drive crossover, as the 4Motion all-wheel drive system will be reserved for the two gasoline-fed engines mentioned above.
