Remember when the Nissan Leaf was once the pound-for-pound greatest deal you could buy in the entire EV space? In the days before Tesla cannibalized its market share and relegated it to a life outside the upper echelon of high-selling EVs, the Leaf was once America's finest electric vehicle. Even in 2024, the Leaf still packs a mean punch at its price point. It's not quite a Tesla Model 3 in terms of sheer "wow" factor, but a $3,750 federal tax credit's sure to sweeten the pot just a bit.
That's right, thanks to the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act signed into law by President Joe Biden last year, those sweet, sweet tax credits the federal government's handed out like candy recently have no signs of letting up. Through December 31st, 2023, 2024 Nissan Leaf models will qualify for the Internal Revenue Service's Section 30D requirement that allows newly manufactured electric vehicles a chance at comprehensive tax credits. It's all in a nationwide drive to push drivers out of internal combustion-powered automobiles and into battery EVs before the end of the 2020s.

While other EVs are relatively close to its market segment, like the Tesla Model 3 and Polestar 3, climb ever higher in their MSRPs, the 2024 Leaf made sure not to leave the American working class in the dust with a base price of just $28,140 for the bare-basic S trim. Granted, you'll be getting a lesser battery range of just under 150 miles in the lower S trim package. But to a whole generation of people kicking petroleum to the curb in their daily drivers, the ability to drive to and from their jobs every day without ever touching a gas pump again is an opportunity too tempting to pass up.

The extra $3,700 and change in your pocket is just the extra gravy on top that could entice people through the front door of a Nissan dealership. "For more than a decade, the LEAF has been one of the most attainable electric vehicles on the market," said Judy Wheeler, divisional vice president of Nissan U.S. Sales and Regional Operations, as she discussed the finer points of the Leaf's eligibility for this ground-breaking EV tax credit program. "Eligibility for part of the federal EV tax credit puts LEAF within reach for even more customers who are ready to make the switch to an EV."

But even without a fancy federal EV tax credit, there's still plenty to like about the features and refinements Nissan crammed into the 2024 Leaf. It's a point we were eager to make as we've discussed the 2024 Leaf in the past. We highly recommend you check those pieces out if you want to learn more.
