Revealed with much pomp in April 2023 for the 2024 model year, the W214 E-Class will hit arrive in American showrooms with a starting price of $62,300 for the E 350 4MATIC. While it may cost $5,550 more than its predecessor, there is a catch.
According to Merc's online configurator, the W213 E-Class retails at $56,750 with rear-wheel drive. Opting for all-wheel drive increases the sticker price to $59,250 (excluding the $1,150 delivery fee). Thankfully, the destination charge stays put.

In the first instance, customers are presented with two grades and two powertrain options. 350 used to mean 3.5-liter V6 in the good ol' days, but in the 214 series, it stands for a 2.0-liter I4 engine. Internally referred to as M254, said lump develops 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet (400 Nm) of torque. Of course, said resources are channeled to all wheels by a nine-speed automatic transmission.

The 9G-Tronic is also featured in the E 450 4MATIC, which sports a 3.0-liter I6 with 375 horsepower and 369 pound-feet (500 Nm) to its name. Mercedes calls it M256. This engine is also featured in the Mercedes-AMG GT 43 4-Door Coupe, GT 53 4-Door Coupe, CLE 53 Coupe, and the upcoming CLE 53 Cabriolet.

Regarding trim levels, the Premium includes wireless charging for your smartphone, 64-color ambient lighting, blind spot assistance, Parking Package with Surround View 360-degree Camera, MBUX Augmented Reality Navigation, a 14.4-inch touchscreen display, Panoramic Sliding Roof, Digital Vehicle Key, AMG Exterior Styling, LED headlamps, as well as adaptive high-beam assist.

The better-equipped Pinnacle is $2,550 more. In addition to the aforementioned, this grade further sweetens the deal with a head-up display, heat- and noise-insulating glass, Active Ambient Lighting with Sound Visualization, and an illuminated three-pointed star logo up front. AGILITY CONTROL suspension with selective damping is standard for both trims, while the optional AIRMATIC Package enhances the W214 sedan with rear-axle steering.

Offered with 18- to 21-inch wheels, the most tech-intensive Mercedes E-Class to date can be had with a 17-speaker Burmester 4D Surround Sound audio system with Dolby Atmos technology. It features 730 watts, 15 amplifier channels, and – get this – speakers in the headliner. Other noteworthy options come in the form of DIGITAL LIGHT headlamps, AIRMATIC suspension with ADS+ adaptive dampers (bundled in the AIRMATIC Package), and a 12.3-inch front passenger display (bundled in the MBUX Superscreen Package)

Customers running iOS 16.4 or newer can unlock/lock and start the vehicle using their iPhone devices. The Digital Vehicle Key is also compatible with the Apple Watch Series 6 or newer versions. Regarding the proverbial elephant in the room, the BMW 5 Series and Audi A6 are more affordable.

By how much, though? At the moment of reporting, the rear-wheel-drive 530i starts at $57,900, whereas the 530i xDrive levels up to $60,200. Over at Audi, the 45 TFSI quattro version of the A6 is $57,300. Both flaunt inline-four turbo engines.
