2024 is the final year of the second-generation QX. Initially called QX56 after the displacement of its naturally-aspirated V8, the body-on-frame luxury sport utility vehicle was renamed QX80 for 2014.
Previewed by the QX80 Monograph Concept earlier this month at Pebble Beach, the next generation will drop the 5.6-liter Endurance powerplant in favor of a twin-turbocharged V6. A dealer source confirmed this engine in the 2024 model year Nissan Armada, which is due to premiere this coming winter with Range Rover-inspired exterior styling cues.
The newcomer has also been confirmed with 424 horsepower on deck, up from the 400 horsepower of the 5.6-liter Endurance. Speaking to Automotive News, the insider also confirmed a nine-speed automatic transmission, most likely the Mercedes-Benz 9G-Tronic-based JATCO JR913E of the Frontier midsizer, Titan full-size pickup truck, and Nissan Z sports car.
By comparison, the 2024 Infiniti QX80 features the same ol' seven-speed automatic as the 2011 Infiniti QX56 did more than a decade ago. The only notable change for 2024 comes in the form of an appearance package exclusive to the range-topping Sensory.
The Sensory-exclusive Dark Chrome Appearance Package includes dark chrome for the rear liftgate finisher, grille surround, front fascia trim, and fender vents. Black-painted mirror caps also need to be mentioned, along with a list price of $750 at press time.
Regardless of trim levels and configuration, the QX80 comes with something called Infiniti Premium Care. That's another way of saying integrated maintenance program. Over the course of three years or 45,000 miles (72,420 kilometers), owners are offered complimentary oil changes, tire rotations, and inspections. Rated at 413 pound-feet (560 Nm) of torque, the gas-guzzling engine of this luxury-oriented colossus is EPA-rated 16 miles per gallon (14.7 liters per 100 kilometers) combined.
Of course, that estimate applies to the standard rear-wheel-drive setup. Even the range-topping Sensory grade is rocking rear-wheel drive as standard rather than all-wheel drive, which is rather curious. The Range Rover doesn't offer rear-wheel drive, and the same applies to the V6-powered Land Cruiser 300 series that America doesn't get. On the upside, the US and Canada will be treated to the I4-engined Land Cruiser 250 series, better known as the Prado in many overseas markets.
Luxe is what Infiniti calls the base trim level. It retails at $74,150, and upgrading to four-wheel drive requires you to spend an extra $3,150. Highlights include 20-inch wheels, 13 speakers from Bose, a wireless charging pad for your mobile device, a power liftgate, Charcoal Burl trim pieces, and – of course – Nappa leather.
Next up, the Premium will set you back either $78,785 or $81,885 before destination charge and optional extras. Riding on 22-inch wheels finished in dark chrome, this grade further sweetens the deal with Matte Mocha Burl interior trim, illuminated kick plates, black-painted mirror caps, and dark chrome exterior trim.
Last but certainly not least, the Sensory can be yours for a cool $85,835 or $88,935 at the very least. From the Bose Performance Series audio system to the semi-aniline quilted leather, black tricot headliner, climate-controlled front seats, and Hydraulic Body Motion Control suspension, it does tick a whole lotta boxes.
