*True, the 2023 Hyundai Sonata's base MSRP is $25,450, but that's for the lesser SE model. Now, the entry point is the SEL, and that's where the change comes - it starts from $27,975 for the current version, and Hyundai asks $475 less for the refreshed 2024 model year. That's pretty cool, right?
In this day and age, inflation is not just another nuisance we have to deal with on a daily basis – it has become a harrowing element that makes people cringe about whether or not they will make it until the next paycheck. As such, we have – unfortunately – grown accustomed to price hikes everywhere. That's also valid across the automotive industry, which, because of constraints or greed (maybe both), is only sending the MSRPs instead of down.

Well, that's it. Hyundai is negating the trend – at least as far as the launch of the redesigned 2024 Sonata mid-size sedan is concerned. As always, when we read the new $27,500 MSRP for the base Sonata SEL, we immediately checked the 2023 MY's asking price. As it turns out, Hyundai dumped the SE version, and now the new SEL base is cheaper than before!

"Featuring a bold new look, improved tech and the availability of all-wheel drive for the first time," the 2024 Sonata is an encompassing swan song for the Toyota Camry rival – which, by the way, starts from a lower $26,420 for the 2024MY, the final one for the current iteration – and customers can choose three powertrains: 2.5-liter with and without a turbo, as well as the 2.0-liter Hybrid. Additionally, for the first time, Sonata owners can also select the company's HTRAC All-Wheel Drive, "enhancing traction and control like never before."

The standard Sonata SEL with the 2.5L GDI starts from $27,500 ($28,615 including delivery), followed by the Sonata SEL 2.5L GDI HTRAC All-Wheel-Drive at $29,000 ($30,115 including delivery). Slated to arrive during the first quarter of next year, the Sonata Hybrid will kick off at $30,800 ($31,915 including delivery), while the enthusiast-focused Sonata N Line starts from $34,950 ($36,065 including delivery). All gasoline models are equipped with an eight-speed auto with Shiftronic, while the Sonata Hybrid gets a six-speed auto, and the N Line features an eight-speed wet dual-clutch gearbox.

Now, let's also compare the figures for the other models in the lineup. Regarding the Sonata Hybrid, Hyundai again dismisses the current Blue trim, and the 2024MY is $1,000 cheaper than the 2023 Sonata Hybrid SEL. The same is not valid for the HEV Limited, which surges from $36,600 to $37,200. Additionally, the N Line is also marginally more expensive – from $34,825 to $34,950. Still, it's nice to see at least one automaker preoccupied with containing (at least partially) these continuous price hikes.
