It's coming to Australian dealerships with the SmartStream G 1.6T-GDi Hybrid, and the second option - SmartStream G 2.5T-GDi will be offered before the end of the year, both with FWD or AWD setups and six or seven-seat layouts.
The Hyundai Santa Fe may already feel entirely familiar to anyone enjoying its rugged, all-new blocky design – but that's because the South Korean automaker has staged many more introductions than usual, and it's already on sale in certain regions. Last year, the company first staged an initial design presentation; during the final days of summer, it unleashed the official launch 'party' in the most logical place (Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA), and then it also gave it the red-carpet treatment during the 2023 Los Angeles Auto Show.

In America, it has been available since March this year, with prices kicking off at $34k for the 2.5-liter turbo and $37k for the Santa Fe Hybrid. In other regions, Hyundai moved a little slower, though, and Australia got the launch announcement late last year with a promise of starting sales during the first half of 2024. Well, they kept it, although barely – since we're almost ready to start the next half of the year in a matter of days, not weeks.

Anyway, it's better late than never, of course, and the South Korean company is "introducing the rugged yet refined all-new Santa Fe, featuring a spacious three-row cabin and an enlarged tailgate designed to accommodate an active outdoor lifestyle." It has three grades in the lineup (Santa Fe, Elite, and Calligraphy), the option of FWD or AWD for the base trim, and the choice of seven or six seats for the top Calligraphy. However, the first to arrive is the Santa Fe Hybrid. At the same time, the 2.5-liter models will become available late during the year's final quarter – at least the turbo model because now there's no word on the naturally aspirated version promised in November 2023.

Built around the new "open for more" concept, Hyundai's Santa Fe has ample space for the second and third-row occupants, a practical cargo area, plus a Panoramic Curved Display with dual 12.3-inch digital cluster and infotainment displays, Bluelink Connected Car Services and Over-The-Air (OTA) remote software update, as well as a big SmartSense safety suite the second-generation technologies Highway Driving Assist (HDA2), Forward Collision Assist (FCA2), and Lane Following Assist (LFA2) for the driver.

The Santa Fe Hybrid has a combined output of 231 horsepower and 271 lb-ft (367 Nm) plus a 1.49 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery and six-speed automatic transmission, while the 2.5 T-GDi engine packs 276 hp and 311 lb-ft (422 Nm) sent to the wheels through an 8-speed wet dual-clutch transmission. Right now, we only know the pricing details for the Hybrid version, which kicks off at AUD 55,500, the equivalent of a little more than $37k ($37,213), almost on par with the US pricing.
