Hyundai's first venture into the compact hot hatch class dates back to 2017, when they introduced the i30 N. Based on the third-gen non-N variant, which came out one year before, it aims high, like VW Golf GTI and Honda Civic Type R high. And to some, it's better overall than its rivals, whereas others would rather stick to the models that have more legacy in this class.
A little over three years ago, the Korean marque gave the i30 and i30 N a few minor adjustments for the mid-cycle refresh. As a result, we thought they might be prepping the next-gen by now, but that would be a no-no. Instead, the automaker is working on a second facelift, which will keep throwing punches at the GTI and Type R in the range-topping form.

Spied doing its thing in the open and stopping for gas at one point, the 2024 Hyundai i30 N has new headlamps that appear to be about the same size and shape as before (we could be wrong), though the LED DRL graphics are new.

The grille is expected to at least feature a new pattern, and it seems that the side vents in the bumper are smaller. The side skirts are identical, and out back, we expect a new bumper and diffuser and a fresh pair of taillights.

Are you having doubts that you're looking at the i30 N and not the regular i30? Well, those large dual exhaust tips are a clear indicator that this is the hot hatch, and so are the large rear spoiler and uprated brakes with red calipers behind the alloys wrapped in Pirelli P Zeros.

Also, if you look at the side skirts, you'll see the typical red trim and the N logo beneath some duct tape. It is possible that Hyundai might give it a new infotainment system or at least revise the software of the current unit, and other than that, we would expect any other significant updates in the cockpit.

The engine will carry over, and it is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit. It's good for either 250 or 280 ps (246-276 hp/184-206 kW), and to better take on Civic Type R, which enjoys 315 hp, it might get a bit more power. The Golf GTI has 241 horsepower. Exactly how much is unknown, and this is a mere rumor that should be taken accordingly.

The six-speed manual gearbox will likely soldier on in the lesser variant, with the higher spec getting either the stick shift or an eight-speed DCT. We will know more about the Korean company's hot hatch as the testing phase advances. The unveiling date is unknown, but it could premiere in the coming months.
