The Bavarian automaker has lots to do this early summer – from model year updates to the BMW Motorrad lineup to introducing the 'small' 2024 BMW X1 M35i xDrive and from announcing the artist behind their 20th BMW Art Car to diligently taking care of their flagship XM crossover SUV.
Speaking of the latter, the brand-new XM has already been hit with the first recall alongside the facelifted X7 M60i – these new vehicles now tend to break down way too early on during their lifecycles. Luckily, thanks to Performance Eurowerks' dynamometer, we also know that the 644-horsepower-rated super-CUV is laying down 615 hp at the wheels, meaning it has more power and torque than BMW says it does, as per tradition.

Anyway, the 2024 BMW XM with 'just' 644 horsepower (which is still almost enough to challenge a 657-hp Lambo Urus S or Performante to a quick brawl or two) has been around for some time already. And, at $159k without destination, it's undoubtedly one of the most expensive M GmbH models available on the US market. Compare it to the $62,200 M2, the M3 family ($76k Sedan, $78,100 M4 Coupe or $93,300 M4 Convertible), M8 Coupe or Convertible and Gran Coupe ($138,800 or $148,800, and $138,800 respectively), plus the entire X family, which ranges from $74,400 (X3 M) to $127,200 (X6 M) and you can easily drive a point home.

But now the Bavarians have the absolute XM flagship on offer, too. So, the 2024 BMW XM Label Red goes from an MSRP of $185k, which is not that much for swapping the rating from 644 hp to 738 hp for the plug-in hybrid assembly paired with the iconic 4.4-liter BMW M TwinPower Turbo V8. That way, the sprint time to 60 mph (96 kph) goes down from 4.1 seconds to a supercar-like 3.6s! And shockingly, there are only a few paid options. For example, all colors are free of charge (including the Toronto Red exterior trim), and so are all the 22- and 23-inch wheel choices.

In the end, all you can add is the $3,400 Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System, the $2,500 M Driver's performance package, plus various bundles of the BMW Ultimate Care+ program (from $850 to $6,649). In the end, the tally rose to less than $200k - $197,549, to be more precise, without the $995 destination & handling fee. That's a total of $198,544, by the way. As a reminder, the pre-order waiting list was opened months ago in February, but until now, there was no way to fiddle with the options. The BMW XM plug-in hybrid full-size luxury crossover represents the German company's idea of a super-SUV that's bound to clash with everyone, from the ultra-ritzy Rolls-Royce Cullinan Black Badge to the 715-hp Ferrari Purosangue, and more.
