The automotive industry has a lot on its 'mind' these days, but some things don't need a second thought because they're oh so traditional, just like nuts and bolts. For example, the fact that a new Range Rover is successful in the aftermarket realm is just as classic as knowing that some truths are truly incontestable.
One of them revolves around the success of each passing generation of Land Rover's posh SUV. No matter how many detractors said the L460 fifth generation was too close to its predecessor for comfort and great sales, the deliveries have soared exponentially ever since. Although it currently has a starting price of $107,400 in America, and you can easily reach $234k when opting for the Long-wheelbase P615 AWD V8-powered SV model, it's also a darling of the aftermarket realm.
But there's a catch, of course. You need to know your stuff – not just aim for the most outrageous ideas – to pass as a true connoisseur among diehard enthusiasts. That's probably why few companies have dared to propose widebody aerodynamic kits for the L460 Range Rover until now. And among them, few were good enough to present with positive feedback.
Unlike the creations from Keyvany, the good folks over at RDB LA in California offer us the sample of a stunningly light Land Rover Range Rover that's a positive example of how to properly mod the SUV without becoming the target of fine or raw ironies. This is their third completed example, all done with 1016Industries-produced aftermarket aero kits and then taken to the next level with some of their finer touches.
Soon enough after they presented a menacingly dark custom 2023 Range Rover flaunting the properly stanced and widebody lifestyle in all-black attire, now there's a 'Silver Surfer' that's contrasting deeply with its full satin silver 'aluminum' wrap style and 26-inch RDB Wheels. And, in case you want to know the name of the 'steelies' with a slightly concave inner ring and Aerodisc style, they're called 'Zero.'
As for the powertrain, there's no hint, but we sure hope this 2023 Range Rover is something mighty – like the SV model packing over 606 horsepower thanks to the new V8 sitting under the hood. Oh well, who am I trying to kid? I would flaunt this everywhere and try to stand out in any crowd, even if the Range Rover arrived silently at the meeting because it was the much 'cheaper' P550e plug-in hybrid model.
By the way, if you want to know what comes next for the mighty Range Rover, it's full electrification – for sure. Of course, the company is not making the change too soon – they might want to check out the competition first, as the Caddy Escalade IQ is set to appear a few days from now and gauge the audience's response to a full-size body-on-frame truck-based luxury crossover SUV before anyone else.
