Part of the C-Class family without interruption ever since the first-ever generation of the model appeared back in the ‘90s, the T-Modell (Estate in Britain) is one of the most appreciated premium wagons, especially in Europe.
With the fifth-generation C-Class, codenamed W206, on its way to an official reveal in the following weeks, spy photographers have caught various station wagon versions (S206) doing their final cold-weather runs somewhere in northern Sweden.
As you can see, the pre-production prototypes have started to seriously shed some of their heavy camouflage, even though most of it wasn’t actually needed anyway.
We say this because a fully naked wagon prototype body carried by a fork lifter was spied as early as last fall, while the sedan has been caught without any camouflage last year as well.
It’s not on the outside where the revolution will happen with the next C-Class, though; it's inside, where the smallest RWD Mercedes-Benz sedan is expected to revolutionize its segment.
Gone will be most of the analog buttons and switches on the center console, their place taken over by a giant touchscreen with haptic feedback that will come in two sizes.
Entry-level models will feature a smaller screen that won’t include controls for the climate control, while the better-equipped ones get the full screen, which will be similar in design to the one found on the latest S-Class W223.
Obviously, most of the interior will be shared by both the sedan and the spied wagon, with the long-roof models benefiting from a larger luggage capacity and better access.
On the engine side, the entire C-Class W206 and S206 lineup will feature four-cylinder powerplants, both diesel and gasoline in Europe and gasoline-only in the United States.
Both new and old but revised, all the engines will be mild-hybrid, full-hybrid or plug-in hybrid, with electricity finally getting a bigger role to play in both Mercedes-AMG versions, including the mighty C 63.
