Now that the 2021 Porsche 911 Turbo S has proven that, in certain real-world scenarios, it can take down the quarter-mile sensation that is the McLaren 720S, this new 992 generation of the German supercar has quickly built on the uber-solid drag racing reputation of its predecessor. But what if the two were to clash at the drag strip?
It's no surprise that, in a stock-vs-stock scenario, the newer model would one-up the 991.2-gen 911 it replaced. However, the battle we have here is a bit more complicated than that.

For starters, this 992 is a Cabriolet, which obviously adds a bit of weight. In addition, both Neunelfers had been gifted with mods.

To be more precise, the 3.8-liter flat-six of the older model features a Champion Motorsports 100-octane tune, as well as a Tubi Style cat-back exhaust with the factory manifolds. As a result of the gym visit, the unit churns out 620 wheel horsepower, which makes for over 700 hp at the crankshaft (the factory crank number sits at 572 hp).

The generation change has seen the TT 3.8-liter boxer delivering 641 hp on the 992 Turbo S. And with this particular example featuring a DME tune and a cat back exhaust, it now produces around 630 wheel horsepower (approximately 730 hp at the crankshaft).

The Zuffenhausen duo engaged in battle on the prepped surface of the drag strip, as you'll see at the 1:21 point of the clip below (lens tip to
Road Test TV).

Keep in mind that the reaction times of the drivers aren't relevant, since the clock doesn't start ticking until the vehicle gets off the line. Nevertheless, the 991.2 enjoyed a better takeoff, which is probably owed to its Toyo R888R tires, which are a top choice among drag racers.

It's worth mentioning that none of the Porsches delivered its best pass of the day during the confrontation. In fact, the final part of the clip brings us the most impressive 1/4-mile run for each car, time slips included.
